2019 Year In Review | Seoul Photographer
2019 Year In Review | Seoul Photographer
Just like that, another year is gone. I've come to think of the concept of time a lot differently since it seems to be flying by at an alarming rate. Looking back at my images from this year, it seems to be evident that time has had an influence on my creative process. I don't mean that I had a shortage or even an abundance of time to create images, I feel as though I were merely more selective of when I pressed the shutter button. This has awarded me with a mindset to assess surroundings a lot more intimately, bring simplicity to congested scenes and focus on nuances that interest me.
Being sensitive to nuances proves to be worthless if one isn't able to have access to magical moments. I've been privileged enough to be invited into new and personal spaces. Let's start with personal spaces. As a Family Photographer, 2019 was cordial enough to send beautiful families my way.
I was also lucky enough to document a performance by Seomoon Tak, a South Korean musician. It was exhilarating to see her perform in person.
As an event photographer, 2019 was once again an exciting year as I was able to attend private VIP dinners to make photographs of ambassadors and business leaders of a few of South Korea's largest businesses.
While on the topic of private events, weddings were in top form this year. I thoroughly enjoyed the portraiture and documentary side of things. They were intimate and a whole lot of fun.
The bride having a brilliant time!
I had a lot of fun with portrait sessions this year, too. I tried pushing myself and experimenting a bit more. I've always suspected, but now I accept that portraiture is not only confined to faces.
Looking back on my personal work, I think it's evident that I have a keen interest in minimalism and cinematography as these influences made repeated appearances throughout this year. I'm hoping to explore more of this type of atmospheric photography in 2020.
Influences also came in the form of travelling. I visited lively and colourful places this year, and it has inspired me in ways I cannot accurately explain.
This portrait of me was made in February this year. I can assure you that the emotions I'm portraying in the photograph are still present in me while I reflect on photography in 2019 on this day, 31st December.
This concludes my Year In Review for 2019. Thank you to everyone who has gifted me with new experiences and supported me in my journey this year.
See you in 2020!
